Amazon Kindle advertisement supports gay marriage
US internet retailing giant Amazon has expressed open support for gay marriage in a new advertisement for the Kindle Paperwhite e-reader.
The American commercial begains with a man sat by a beach, struggling to read his tablet computer because of the sun’s glare. The woman sunbathing at his side is reading a Kindle Paperwhite, and is having no problems at all. The man asks about the e-reader and is told about the features of this Kindle model. He then immediately orders his very own Paperwhite on his tablet.
After he has placed his order he tells the woman they should go out and celebrate. She tells him “My husband’s bringing me a drink right now”, seemingly rejecting his advances.
“So is mine!” the man replies, and the camera pans to two men smiling and waving from an alfresco cocktail bar.
In July 2012 Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife Mackenzie personally donated $2.5 million to help pass a same-sex marriage referendum in Washington State.
The first Kindle model was released in the USin November 2007 and sold out in less than six hours. The Kindle Paperwhite was launched in October 2012.
