Transcript for Divorce Advice: Finances and Adultery – Top Divorce Lawyer Marilyn Stowe
People worry that committing adultery is going to cause a big problem during their divorce when it comes to finances and children but they shouldn’t.
The fact that a marriage has broken down is not surprising. There are 60 million people in this country and not every marriage is going to work. As we know, lots of marriages break down. 42 per cent of marriages break down.
The fact that the marriage has broken down won’t impact on your ability to parent a child and it doesn’t impact on your needs in terms of finances. What you should remember is that adultery is very emotional, very upsetting and, of course, it brings into play issues like lack of trust and whether or not the marriage can continue.
If the marriage has irretrievably broken down and you can’t tolerate your spouse’s adultery, or if your adultery has caused a break down in the marriage, it doesn’t matter in terms of finances or the children.
