Saudi woman seeks divorce from short husband

A Saudi woman has filed for divorce on the grounds that her husband is too short.

The woman, aged just 20, told government officials in Al Qatif on the eastern coast of the Middle Eastern nation that she had become embarrassed by her husband of seven months, who was shorter than her. She claimed she and her new husband attracted mockery and shock when out in public and she felt ‘painfully uneasy’ and ‘distressingly uncomfortable’ when this occurred.

A government spokesman described the case as highly unusual.

The story caused a stir on social media, with many commentators suggesting that the young bride was insensitive and should not have agreed to marry her husband in the first place. A minority, by contrast, made supportive comments, pointing that the disparity in height would last a lifetime and said she had a right to separate if she wished.

The couple in question have not been named.

It sounds like a tall tale to me.

Her observation skills prior to the marriage were clearly not the best…

Erm, nah, needs more information like their respective heights to have an opinion on this. Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster look ok, can’t see the issue with a woman being taller than her partner. Have heard Ronny Corbet got a bit upset about it though and used to make his partners and dance partners go flat footed and stoop while he had platforms and got grumpy else. If he is from Edinburgh then that story is probably true.

Lots of women are taller than their partners. Not an issue.
