Family Court Fees to Rise

March 28, 2024

June saw an increase in both the public and private family cases referred to Cafcass, new statistics reveal.

A total of 1,104 care applications were referred to Cafcass over the month, a substantial 25 per cent jump on June 2014.

Meanwhile, 3,466 private cases (family disputes between individuals) were referred to the service over the same month: an increase of no less than 33 per cent over June 2014.

A total of 11,143 care cases were referred across the whole year to March, five per cent more than during the previous year, when 10,620 applications were received.

However, the total number of private cases referred over the year – 34,218 – represented a substantial 27 per cent fall over the year to March last year, when 46,636 cases were received.

Cafcass – the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service – works to represent the interests of children caught up in family disputes and care proceedings.
