A maintenance claim involving the founder of successful green energy firm Ecotricity has reached the Supreme Court.
Vince v Wyatt is a dispute between Kathleen Wyatt and her former husband Dale Vince, who founded the Gloucestershire-based wind turbine company in 1996. Ecotricity is now thought be worth approximately £90 million but when the couple married, in 1981, both were in receipt of state benefits. They had a son together before separating at a disputed point during the 1980s, eventually finalising the divorce in 1992 while both parties still lacked assets of any kind.
Mrs Wyatt filed a financial remedy claim against Mr Vince in 2010,claiming that she had been unable to do so at an earlier date. Her claim was initially successful but a ruling in her favour was overturned at the Court of Appeal in May last year.
Now retired High Court Judge Lord Justice Thorpe said Mr Vince was “not her insurer against life’s eventualities.”
The Supreme Court will hear the case today and Tuesday.
Does anyone know yet what the result of the Dale Vince case on 9 December was?
Judgment reserved. Probably till the New Year.
