More than 20 per cent of people marry expecting divorce

More than twenty per cent of engaged or recently married couples believe they are likely to divorce at some point in the future, a new survey suggests.

However, almost half the doubters (48 per cent) said they thought their partners probably didn’t agree with their pessimism.

More than 40 per cent of those who expected divorce said the financial implications of a split were a major concern. Seventeen per cent said they had kept their finances separate from their partner but only seven per cent said they had signed a prenuptial agreement in case the relationship did end.

However, more than 40 per cent said they thought such caution did not detract from the romance of the engagement and wedding.

Twenty-two per cent admitted their imminent or recent marriage might not last for ever.

Reasons given for scepticism about the longevity of the marriage included that they “didn’t think it happened in today’s world” (44 per cent); the presence of “too many external influences”; and the fact that “feelings changed” (27 per cent).

The survey was conducted by voucher website Vouchercloud.

I’d be interested to know how many men are in that percentage and their names and addresses – because I own London Bridge and I am looking to sell it…
