US actress Jane Lynch is to divorce her spouse of three years, Dr Lara Embry.
The 52 year-old, best known for her role in popular musical comedy drama Glee, met Embry, a clinical psychologist at a fundraiser in San Francisco in 2009. They married the following year in Massachusetts, when the state was one of the few in the US to recognise gay marriage.
After the marriage, Lynch became stepmother to Haden, Embry’s daughter from a previous relationship.
The actress told People magazine:
“Lara and I have decided to end our marriage. This has been a difficult decision for us as we care very deeply about one another. We ask for privacy as we deal with this family matter.”
Jane Lynch is currently performing in the musical Annie on Broadway.
