The 32 year-old son of late billionaire Sir James Goldsmith filed for divorce from wife Kate Rothschild last year following allegations that she had had an affair with US rapper Jay Electronica. Goldsmith was arrested following an altercation at their home in Kensington and received a police caution.
The pair later exchanged acrimonious accusations on Twitter. Goldsmith later told The Telegraph:
“I was stupid to have said anything on Twitter. It’s no excuse, but I was devastated.”
The pair were granted a decree nisi by Deputy District Judge Felicity Crowther at today’s hearing, although neither attended court The Evening Standard reports.
The former couple were married in 2003 and have three children together.
Goldsmith is reported to have inherited £300 million on his father’s death in 2007. Both he and older brother Zac Goldsmith are heavily involved in environmental issues.
Zac, 38, was editor of The Ecologist for nine years and is now a Conservative MP. Earlier this year he married Kate Rothschild’s sister Alice.
