Wife of jailed tycoon says new documents show he has “no respect” for the law

The ex-wife of jailed property developer Scot Young has claimed that recently leaked financial documents show he has “no respect” for the law.

Young was jailed in January for contempt of court after failing to provide financial details in a long-running divorce dispute with former wife Michelle. He claimed to be bankrupt after losing his fortune in a Moscow property deal and said he could not afford to pay court-ordered maintenance of £27,500 a month.

But a recently leaked cache of documents from the offshore banking industry reportedly show that Young in fact channelled wealth into offshore companies in Caribbean tax haven the British Virgin Islands, in apparent breach of a ‘global freezing order’ forbidding the transfer of assets.

Michelle Young claimed the documents showed  that her husband had lied “without regard to the British justice system”.

She alleged:

“His dishonesty is staggering……This is the proof, if it were even needed, that he has no respect for the law whatsoever….People like Scott, people with wealth and power, believe that the rules do not apply to them.”

She vowed to use the new information, published in the Guardian yesterday, to press her case for against her former husband.

“Obviously this accelerates my case. I will now be calling all of the people named in this document to the High Court.”

Young was an associate of recently deceased Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky
