Indian actor and politician completes divorce from doctor wife

Indian actor and politician KB Ganesh Kumar has completed his divorce from wife Dr Yamini Thankachi.

The 46 year-old actor is known for his roles in southern Indian Malayalam films but is also the the son of a politician and has been active in regional politics within the state of Kerala for more than a decade. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in May 2001. He became the Keralan Minister for Forests & Environment, Sports and Cinema ten years later.

He and Yamini signed a divorce contract at the home of at the home of her mother earlier this week, ending their marriage of more than a decade. Keralan Labour Minister Shibu Baby John helped to broker the settlement.

Thankachi has received custody of the couples’ two children, as well as land and property in a financial settlement, but she has also been barred from discussing details with the media, the Deccan Chronicle reports.

Last month Kumar was assaulted by a man who claimed the minister had been having an extramarital affair with his wife. Since then the actor has come under pressure to resign his seat.
