Rod Stewart premieres new single about divorce

Veteran rock star Rod Stewart premiered his new single about divorce this morning on BBC Radio 2.

It’s Over was played on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show and Rod spoke to Chris live on the programme to discuss his new song:

“It’s about divorce. I wrote it for men and anyone that’s been involved in divorce”.

The lyrics of the single speak of marriage and relationship breakdown:

The congregation sang, we knelt and prayed, as we stood before God on that beautiful day…but here we are barely five years on and our whole world’s falling apart”.

The song also talks about the pain of divorce:

I don’t want our kids to suffer, can’t we talk to one another, you were once my wife my lover, it’s over.

The veteran musician has been divorced twice, from actress Alana Stewart and model Rachel Hunter.

His first marriage to Alana lasted from 1979 to 1984 and they had two children together. Rod married Rachel Hunter in 1990 and had another two children before the pair split in 2006.

Rod has now been married to model Penny Lancaster-Stewart since 2007 and the couple have two sons, Alastair and Aiden.

It’s Over will feature on Rod’s forthcoming album Time, which is due to be released on 7 May.

Alana Stewart discussed her divorce from Rod in depth in her memoirs Rearview Mirror.
