Father of missing boy asks to delay divorce
The father of a boy who disappeared more than two and a half years ago has asked the courts to delay divorce proceedings from his estranged wife in order to allow a criminal investigation to continue.
Kaine Horman asked a judge in Multnomah County, Oregon, to postpone his divorce from Terri Moulton Horman for a further six months.
Seven year old Kyron Horman disappeared in June 2010 after stepmother Terri took him to school in Portland. No one has been arrested in connection with the disappearance but both his father and his biological mother Desiree Young suspect Terri of involvement.
Horman filed for divorce shortly after the disappearance and also obtained a restraining order against his wife. He was awarded sole custody of their daughter Kiara, now four years old.
Desiree Young launched a $10 million civil lawsuit against Terri Horman last year.
At the court hearing earlier this week, lawyers for Terri Horman objected to the proposed delay but her estranged husband’s attorney argued that the divorce courts could not be expected to consider contact arrangement for Kiara while doubts remained about her mother’s involvement in the disappearance.
He added:
“If [Kaine Horman] believes this woman is responsible for Kyron’s disappearance, do you think he’ll feel good about providing spousal support?”
A decision is expected in around two weeks.
