Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti file for divorce after 11 years

US actress Ashley Judd and husband Dario Franchitti have announced plans to divorce after 11 years.

The couple released a statement saying:

“We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We’ll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed,”

Judd’s acting career dates back to the early 1990s but she has become increasingly involved in humanitarian and ecological activism in recent years. She married racing drive rDario Franchitti, from Bathgate, Scotland, in December 2001.

The couple divided their time between homes in Scotland and Tennessee. They had no children. Judd told Scottish tabloid the Sunday Mail:

“It’s unconscionable to breed, with the number of children who are starving to death in impoverished countries”.

Judd, 44, is the daughter of country and western singer Naomi Judd and the half sister of Wynona Judd, also a country music singer.
