News: US singer Jessica Simpson’s parents to split after 34 years
The parents of US singer, actress and TV personality Jessica Simpson are to divorce after 34 years of marriage, according to reports.
Simpson’s mother Tina filed for divorce in Texas last month, saying: “The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities.”
A representative for the Simpson family firmly denied a report in celebrity tabloid the National Enquirer that the split was prompted Simpson’s father Joe declaring that he was gay. The representative told Fox News:
“It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved. Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time.”
In divorce papers obtained by TMZ, Tina states her intention to keep a property which she owns separately to her husband. Joe is reported to have filed a response the papers in which he says that Tina should not benefit from the split.
Areas of Texas impose strict rules on divorcing couples: if they behave badly during the proceedings, they may be found in contempt of court.
Jessica Simpson is worth an estimated $100 million.
