News: Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman split after 30 years of marriage
Actors Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have separated after 30 years of marriage, a spokesman for the actor confirmed earlier this week.
The couple, famous for their television and film roles, were married in January 1982 after living together for 11 years. The famously short pair appeared in legendary TV sitcom Taxi and also appeared together on screen in 1996 film Matilda. Rhea Perlman also found fame as barmaid Carla in the hugely successful sitcom Cheers.
In 1989, Danny DeVito starred in acerbic divorce comedy The War of the Roses, during which his character, lawyer Gavin d’Amato makes the memorable statement: “There are two dilemmas… that rattle the human skull. How do you hold onto someone who won’t stay? And how do you get rid of someone who won’t go?”
Ten years ago the pair also founded film production company Jersey Films, who hits include Pulp Fiction.
The couple have three children: Lucy, Grace and Jacob.
Danny Devito famously said that a successful marriage requires caring more about the needs of the other than yourself. It seemed to have worked for this couple who have been together for a total of more than forty years.
The spokesman gave no further details about the breakup of a marriage long considered one of the most enduring in show business.
