Jonathan: Perhaps you would explain what you consider to be incoherent or poorly reasoned about the arguments put forward by Dawkins and Hitchens, and let me know whose arguments you prefer? I can assure you that I have read other authors, and given the matter serious thought - I take exception to the implication that I have not.

Marilyn: The 'Oh dear' was because I find it sad that intelligent people can be deluded by such nonsense. You are, of course, entitled to have such a delusion, but please, keep it to yourself. In particular, do not prey upon vulnerable people to propagate it.

Thanks for your comments John but why the "Oh Dear"? Bit unnecessary isnt it?
Our individual faith or lack of it, is very much personal to each one of us and is based simply on the strength of our belief as to the meaning of life. I certainly do not advocate any particular type or level of faith;- but I can only recommend as I find which to those going through marital breakdown and who may be receptive to faith, may help to avoid a life shattering decision for all family members;- parents, children, grandchildren, who may unwittingly become involved.

John, neither of the books you quote is a good advertisement for atheism. There are far more coherent and reasoned apologists for atheism than either of these. Dawkins and Hitchens simply have better publicists. Serious thinking requires more than picking up on the most advertised recent polemics on the issue.
